TCM (Traditional Chinese Medical) Acupuncture
TCM Acupuncture is part of a 3000 year old system of diagnosis and treatment of the body’s internal energy or qi (chi). In TCM, pain and dysfunction are understood to arise when qi is undernourished or stuck. Acupuncture releases the body’s stuck energy and enables the internal organs to function more efficiently, thus nourishing qi. A person with a decent amount of unstuck qi at their disposal is energetic, clear minded and emotionally and physically resili ent.
IM (Intramuscular) Acupuncture
A healthy body’s muscles are capable of clenching and relaxing fully. When a muscle is tense it gets stuck in a ‘half-in, half-out’ state. Intramuscular needling makes the muscle clench fully and then immediately relax fully.
Electro-Acupuncture
In some cases the effects of Acupuncture can be enhanced by use of an electro-therapy machine similar to TENS. In cases of severe muscular or nervous impairment e.g. stroke and sciatica, electro-acupuncture is used in China to a high degree of success. It can also be used to help more internal conditions such as period pain.
Trigger Point Acupuncture
Trigger points are points on the body that may radiate pain to a completely different part of the body. When Trigger points are stimulated with Acupuncture needles, the area which has been feeling the pain will be relieved and function improved.

What can I expect from a treatment?
Does Acupuncture hurt is the most frequent question asked! The answer is yes and no. The most commonly used word to describe the sensation of needling is “weird” not “painful”. At your initial consultation your feelings about acupuncture will be heard and as much information imparted to you as you need. If after hearing and seeing what Acupuncture is about, you are still not happy receiving it then your treatment will not include acupuncture!
After an acupuncture treatment it is not unusual to feel a little spacey. If the acupuncture has been received as part of a Sports package then there may be a ‘bruisey’ feeling in some muscles. For those receiving acupuncture as part of the Balance package you may experience more energy as your frustrations dissolve and mind becomes more focused. Likewise with the Wellbeing package the most common ‘reaction’ is a decrease in symptoms. |
